Having Trouble Training Your Dog? Try These Tips

A well-trained dog makes both you and your pet happy. A dog that is well-trained assures that your dog knows exactly what he can expect. Once trained, you will not have to worry about behavior problems when taken out into public or left home alone. Though it might seem like a difficult task, you and your dog will have many rewarding times together, sharing the tricks and companionship that you’ve come to know through the dog training sessions.

There are different tricks you can try when you are crate training your dog. If they don’t want to go in the crate, try luring them in with a treat or chew bone. The dog will smell the bone and want to go racing into the crate to eat it. After he goes in the crate, reward him with praise and a treat.

Commands and corrections should be short and straight to the point. Do not whine and complain to your pet about their bad behavior. Be firm and get them to do your bidding. Your tone should be stern to let them know you are serious.

Your dog may not learn a command right away. It may take about 25-50 repetitions of a particular command before your dog understands it. Continue trying the same command and be patient, your dog will get it.

Keep your voice firm and level when delivering commands to your dog. This lets the dog know you are serious. They will also know when you are being positive.

Do not have overly long training sessions. Dogs can’t concentrate for long periods of time, so long training sessions are pointless. If more training is desired, work in some break times so your dog can play before continuing with training.

When you are training your dog, be mindful of the time spent in one session. Dog attention spans only go so far, so make sure not to go on too long. Start off with individual training periods of no more than 10 minutes.

Dog training is mostly about being consistent with your pooch and setting the rules of your relationship. Once those are set, you’ll find you both enjoy your time together even more! Keep reinforcing what you have taught your dog. Do not let him stray from good behavior over time, and stay firm if he does. Once you finally get this core foundation of training built with the dog, the possibilities become limitless and you can expand into new and complex areas.
